In January 2006, Prague Airport (www.prg.aero), one of the major air hubs in Central and Eastern Europe made a significant step in their efforts to modernize their facilities, offer seamless handling and increase transport capacity by kicking off the construction of a new terminal.
To create a next-generation facility and provide the best service possible, Prague Airport determined the need for an advanced technological solution for effective network and infrastructure management. To that end, they held a public tender to which leading vendors including RiT submitted bids. RiT won the contract as only its solutions fully met tender requirements and were flexible enough to be tailored to specific needs. Consequently, RiT’s PatchView for the Enterprise system was deployed throughout the new facility, enabling connectivity management across premises and optimal asset utilization.

Challenge
Prague Airport was about to embark on a major expansion project. The sheer increase in infrastructure alone posed a major challenge for the already overworked IT personnel. In addition, they needed to find a way to efficiently integrate the new infrastructure with the existing Airport-wide network while retaining the high level of availability and security critical in an Airport environment.
The challenge this project presented was two-fold – first, how were they to handle an installation of this size in an orderly and well documented fashion? Secondly, once the infrastructure was up and running how were they to efficiently manage it, ensure maximal network availability, maintain a high level of security and facilitate maintenance?
The Prague Airport enlisted RiT to provide PatchView - a comprehensive infrastructure management system.

Project Achievements
Today, just a few months after the new facilities have become operational, Prague Airport has been able to streamline operations, easily and efficiently managing a 110,000 port installation. The automation of incident management and work flows has dramatically reduced cost-of-network ownership and set the stage for further expansion and growth. With the PatchView system The Prague Airport has ensured its return on their CZK 8.2 Billion investment.
