Background
When the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC), one of the largest financial institutions in the world, began planning its new 61,000 m2 headquarters in 2007, it recognized the need to use state-of-the-art network technologies to support the building’s complex, constantly-changing communication needs. The headquarters would house the bank’s executive and administrative departments as well as an extensive data center and a 24/7 trading center. To support the building’s voice and data communications needs, an extensive cabling network would be required with more than 13,000 ports.
Challenge
Early in the planning stage, ICBC recognized that manual management of such a complex cabling system would be costly and prone to human error. Further, as a firm whose business relied entirely on its computer capabilities, any system downtown would have severe economic consequences while also damaging ICBC’s reputation. As such, the IT staff decided to deploy an automated, state-of-the-art intelligent infrastructure management (IIM) solution. |

RiT Solution
After a thorough evaluation of available IIM solutions, ICBC selected RiT due to its unmatched IIM products and extensive experience in deploying advanced IIM solutions. The system included seven segments: an intelligent cabling system; a monitoring system; a security system; a wired television and satellite television system; an intelligent conference system; a wireless walkie-talkie system; and an overall intelligent management platform.
The system deployed provides intelligent connectivity to approximately 13,000 data, telephone and fiber ports. The use of intelligent copper frames and fiber trays enables the system to monitor the connectivity of all ports continuously and automatically. When an error is detected, the system alerts the IT staff immediately by email or telephone, thus minimizing downtime. In addition, the system’s provision of an always-accurate picture of the entire network infrastructure helps the IT staff plan for the future, and to make additions and changes to the system quickly and flawlessly

Commenting on the RiT IIM system, Mr. Li, ICBC Network Manager, said, "It is hard to imagine managing our Headquarter’s complex network without RiT’s superb IIM solution. The precise, up-to-date cabling connectivity information provided by the system enables us to save significant management costs, to improve the efficiency of our staff, and to optimize the performance of our network as a whole.” | |
