- Data Center Network and Cabling Manager, Leading Bank in India

Client: Leading bank in India

Industry: Financial Services

Location: India

Our client is an Indian multinational government public sector banking body with its corporate center in Mumbai and other offices (Local Head Offices, Regional Branch Offices, Area Offices etc.) in various cities across the country.

To meet their growing network demands for its data centers and Disaster Recovery Centers, the bank which is the largest in India has set up a global IT center with a total capacity of around 1000 high density racks.

Our Client's Challenge

Our client was embarking on a significant investment which required an intelligent hardware and software solution to manage, monitor and enable management of their data center infrastructure.

With over 1000 high density racks and multiple server halls, intelligent cabling for a spine/leaf architecture with thousands of devices and ports the only solution for our client was automated infrastructure management.

The main challenges were:

  • Automated connectivity management and infrastructure management.
  • Automation for provisioning, equipment deployment and real time IP discovery.
  • The requirement to have end-to-end information for all IT asset dependencies.
  • Visualization of all assets and data halls.
  • Effective and efficient capacity and asset management.

"Reduced provisioning and maintenance times with human errors eliminated."

Our solution

Among a number of capabilities, XpedITe has the ability to provide automated infrastructure management across an entire estate.

With our product, our client has the confidence that that data center teams can accurately discover and visualise their IT and network infrastructure anytime and from anywhere. They can remote manage their high density racks and network connections with XpedITe offering a detailed and accurate graphical view of all cabinets, so that our client has both visibility and reassurance on the accuracy details of all installed assets.

Automating physical connectivity was a critical part of the deployment. It is now very easy for our customer to make connections between patch panels, servers and network switches etc. guided by XpedITe to ensure accurate location and port identities as well as guaranteeing the correct redundant paths. All this with minimal resource overhead and the reduction in potential for human error.

In addition, the IT provisioning and network discovery capabilities have been invaluable. This area is completely automated so that our customer can pinpoint the optimal location for new equipment and automatically plan the provisioning of new assets in the right location. This results in accurately planned end-to-end connectivity information for all IT packages with guaranteed redundant paths for both network and power. Everything they need to do is guided by our system. Their technicians can accurately identify work orders and in turn reduce the resource overhead for both deployment planning and maintenance activities.

Accurate asset tracking is also essential in any data center, so our asset recording and documentation feature provides our clients with a reliable visual display of all deployed asset across all data centers within their estate, including both IT and non-IT assets.

In the dynamic world of data center infrastructure management (DCIM), innovation is the key to staying ahead, something worth celebrating and considering on this International Data Center Day. One of the biggest innovations, as the technology continues to evolve, is Artificial Intelligence (AI). Gone are the days when AI was merely a tech buzzword; today, it stands as a driving force reshaping the landscape of data centers worldwide, ushering in an era of unprecedented growth and innovation. The significance of data centers in our interconnected world has reached new heights, paralleled by the escalating advancements in AI technology. We interact with data centers in our daily lives, in actions that only a few years ago were innovative, such as sending an email, enjoying a movie or series on your mobile, reserving a table at a restaurant or a trip, checking a bank account, the list is endless! Nowadays, these applications also have their own AI, which makes them even more useful in our day to day lives. However, with this surge comes a corresponding increase in energy consumption, posing challenges to traditional data center operations. Yet, amidst this energy-intensive landscape, AI is not only responsible for a significant percentage of data center consumption, but also continues to offer a transformative power. It paves the way for enhanced operational efficiency within data centers through predictive maintenance, optimization of cooling systems, risk identification and mitigation and intelligent energy consumption. These advancements not only result in substantial cost savings but also contribute to environmental sustainability. Looking ahead, AI holds the key to driving further innovations in data center design and management, ensuring scalability and sustainability in an era of relentless digital expansion. Along with the expansion of the influence and importance of data centers, it is becoming more universal and intelligent, at RiT Tech, we stand at the forefront of this evolutionary wave with our groundbreaking UIIM (Universal Intelligent Infrastructure Management) concept. XpedITe is spearheading the charge towards sustainable and efficient data center infrastructure. As the only DCIM system on the market to provide this level of connectivity, XpedITe is reshaping the landscape of data center operations. At the core of XpedITe lies its Provisioning module, a cutting-edge component benefitting from artificial intelligence (AI) functionality. This module is engineered to automate and streamline a multitude of tasks, from planning to maintenance, revolutionizing traditional data center management paradigms. By applying AI to provisioning, XpedITe dramatically reduces the resources required for IMAC (Install, Move, Add, Change) planning, cutting down the process by up to 95%. The necessity for such innovation is underscored by the critical challenges facing the data center industry—time-consuming processes, resource inefficiency, and compliance risks. Traditional manual IMACs are prone to errors and inefficiencies, leading to significant financial and operational setbacks. XpedITe's AI-driven approach addresses these challenges head-on, offering a sustainable solution that enhances agility and reduces environmental impact. Our commitment to harnessing AI for optimization remains unwavering. We recognize that sustainability is not merely a passing trend but a profound responsibility. That's why, at a recent Data Center World event, we took a symbolic step towards offsetting carbon emissions by planting 10 orchards—a tangible manifestation of our dedication to a greener future. As we celebrate International Data Center Day, let us reflect on the transformative potential of AI in shaping a more sustainable digital ecosystem. Together, harnessing the power of technology, we can pave the way for a brighter, more efficient future.
