ISO/IEC 30134-7:2023

Part 7: Cooling Efficiency Ratio (CER)

(Equivalent to EN 50600-4-7)

Description: Heat removed divided by the energy used to remove the heat.

Purpose: Defines Cooling Efficiency Ratio (CER) as a KPI for quantifying the efficient use of energy to control the temperature of the spaces within a data centre.

Calculation formula:

CER=Q(heat removed)/E(cooling)

Components:

E_heat - E_dc – E_cooling

E_cooling – Cooling system energy consumption

Measurement Points:

Incoming building utility provider power meter – kWh.

Cooling systems power consumption meters.

Output from specialised BMS or intelligent DCIM software.

Actionable Insights:

This is a data centre specific metric that relates to the overall cooling efficiency of a data centre building. The KPI allows both the ability to compare cooling systems efficiencies as well as the ability to improve that efficiency during both the design and operations phases of the data centre lifecycle.
